Ah-Ha

Hal Higdon, who is an expert runner, running coach, and the author of the training program I follower for the marathon had an interesting take on post marathon training. He says "Some experts suggest resting one day for every mile you run in the marathon, thus 26 days of no hard running or racing! Others suggest one day for every kilometer, thus 42 days rest."

Perhaps this explains why I hurt so much after running 4 miles on Monday! Duh, I am supposed to be resting!

The Park City Marathon had roughly 8 miles of downhill to the finish line, then I read this..also from the Hal Higdon site:
Hill courses, particularly those with downhills near the end such as Boston, do more muscle damage than flat courses like Chicago.

I knew running a marathon couldn't be good for the body. Since I suffered knee and hip problems from a little 10K, I definitely think I will stay away from marathons. I think staying away from running and doing some other cross training for awhile is a good idea. I still think you need to be careful not to do any workout too long for a few weeks. You might even be surprised how it doesn't hurt the weight loss too go a little easier on work outs. When body gets too stressed, it gets reluctant to lose weight and justs adjusts metabolism. I know you probably think I am crazy, but in weight watchers when someone is at a plateau, it usually helps to change exercise routine. If been working out a lot, taking it a little easier can actually help the weight loss. Of course if you haven't been doing much exercise, picking it up is the answer.
The kids video was really cute.
Looking forward to seeing you guys next week.
