Going a little green

I like to think I do my part for the environment, but there is always room for improvement! Take today for example, I was walking around Home Depot and I spotted a sale on compact florescent light bulbs. I've been thinking of replacing some of my home's bulbs, but they always seemed a little too expensive for me. Well, who can pass on a sale? So I purchased two 6 packs and replaced all of the most commonly used bulbs in our house! I replaced the bulbs in our living room and kitchen, master bedroom, and the entire basement and office. Each bulb supposedly saves $44, but there was one of those little asterisks next to that figure and I didn't take the time to read the fine print. Regardless, they are great for the environment and they should help my bank account as well! A true win-win situation!

Sean and I did the same in our house a while back! I think it does make a difference. Energy bill certainly hasn't gone up!

I think my next move is going to be canvas shopping bags, I get so irritated at the 10 plastic bags I get each week. So wasteful!

In the March 19th, 2007 edition of TIME magazine they say that if every home in the U.S. had 1 compact florescent lightbulb the effect would be equivilant to taking 2 MILLION cars off of the road! They also say that Wal-Mart (who I do not endorse in any way) will sell it 100 millionth compact florescent bulb in December. They give an interesting site to check out, www.18seconds.org

One more thing. In the mail today I got 2 more CFL's! I got them, from of all people, the power company! A few months ago they came and hauled my old freezer away and gave me $40 in a campaign to get rid of energy hogging appliances. And the light bulbs were part of a "gift pack" to further help out the environment and power bills. A big way to go for Rocky Mountain Power!
